| Germany did not deliver the subs out of generosity but because it was pressured to do so after it became known, that Germany made out of the Iraq of Saddam Hussein the biggest possessor of poisonous gas in the ME and after it was revealed that Germany extended the range of his missiles so that they could reach Israel. And they reached Israel. Germany at that time came very close to a disastrous US economical boycott, if only one US GI would have been killed by the German gas (thousands of Kurds and Iranians were gassed by it). The whole story is known in Germany since long under the name of Checkbook Diplomacy, but there are still people from Germany, trying it to sell it as sheer charity. |
