It is easy to find an exact figure about how much compensation Germany paid so far. According to the German Ministry of Finance, Germany paid 64.145 billion Euros until now. Moreover, Germany supports Israel by delivering military and civil goods and facilities for free. For example, Germany gave recently two “Dolphin class” submarines worth 350 million Euros to Israel as a military aid.
I don’t criticize the German payment, I think the least we can do is granting the survivors a comfortable life in dignity. However, I am asking myself what happened to the 64.145 billion Euros that have been paid so far? Why do holocaust survivors still live in poverty?
We Germans are willing to pay as much as the holocaust survivors need. However, the least we can claim is that the money is given to them and not spent for something else. |
