Avi Bar-Eli : Driver's seat / Who needs an electric car anyway?

I don`t understand how the Israeli government can give its support to what could be an eventual private electric car monopoly owned by just two businessmen. What happened to the bidding process? or the anti monopoly laws? Incidentally, Israel produces electricity by burning fossil fuels. So if this venture goes through Israel`s carbon footprint will not be smaller, on the contrary, it will grow dramatically! European cities are doing all they can to reduce the amount of cars coming in to their cities by boosting in every way possible cheap public transport. Subsidizing public transport means less expenditure for new roads and maintaining them. But then, if the Israeli government is determined to push the country towards monopolistic private initiatives then the only winners will be big business at the eventual health of Israel`s citizens.
