Cnaan Liphshiz, Haaretz Correspondent: Dutch Jews: Germany unjustly not paying Dutch Holocaust survivors

Obviously holocaust survivors of today were young during the holocaust.
Many of them were able to lead quite normal lives afterwards and married, had children and provided for their families.
However, many others werent able to adjust to normal life. In Israel they have been taken care of in psychiatric facilities, from their arrival until the present. No-one is asking that these poor people become rich from German hand-outs, but their basic needs should be provided for by the country that wrecked their lives beyond imagination.
Someone like myself cannot fathom the horror they went through, even though we`ve learned many details of their experiences - but we cant feel their pain.
Even children of holocaust survivors often have a load of psychological baggage due to being raised by a holocaust survivor.
Although many years have passed, its shallow to expect these people to "move on". They are at the end of their lives. They deserve dignity and respect.
