| Some kids with some kinds of disabilities can be and should be mainstreamed and everyone gains. Some kids are mainstreamed only because of the parents` narcissism and unwillingness for the neighbors to know their kid is "different" - often to the extent that serious damage is done to the child, and to the detriment of the other kids (and teachers; teachers will tell you that they do not have the resources to adequately teach large, heterogeneous classes AND attend to special needs children. Everyone loses). Sometimes aides can help, sometimes there are other, partial solutions. No one size fits all!!!! So let`s tone down the hysterical retoric, shall we? It`s just plain dumb. |
