What a great thing for Israel this bike route is going to be. With all of the strategic energy sources in the world and the region (other than the Sun) under the control of others, Israel needs new transportation systems that give it energy independance. And in a small, highly populated and polluted country, the bicycle can provide a healthy commute.
Let Israel join where many European countries have already been leaders, in making the bicycle an integral part of local, regional, and national trasportation.
In the United States, even the most successful bike trails are often plagued by gaps in funding, where some local or county government failed to restore a bridge for example. These gaps make U.S. bike trails useless, in most cases, except for local recreation.
I will admire Israel for its ability to get things done if Israel can actually complete this trail in a few years. |
