The Israeli Left is obsessed with the settlements and outposts and so wants to believe that the US has the same obsession. Of course the US wants Israel to get rid of them, it also wants the Palestinians to end corruption and terror, and they don`t do those things either. Bush has a terrible war on his hands in Iraq and so I don`t think he and his minions spare much time to worry about settlements.
If Olmert really were to reach an agreement with Abbas, everyone knows that all the settlements would be destroyed, so the Left would be happy...the fact that they rant on and on about this matter shows that they really, deep down, don`t believe there will ever be peace with the Palestinians and that is really the bottom line. The Left`s belief that there will be peace with the Arabs is really a fantasy. |
