i saw another flaw here: the article states that this organization helped 1500 people over 7 years, about 200 per year. sexual abuse is very common and this number would represent a fraction of 1% of the actual cases of sexual abuse in israel. being that the sampling is not at all random, this "data" has no actual validity in predicting the actual incidence of sexual abuse in the haredi community.
marc twain once said: " there are lies, there are damn lies and then there are statistics". as i said before, i would not even characterise this information as a statistic. but even when actual statistics are given, unless you know the methodology of how it was obtained you should not take it as truth. |
