1. Remember Ruth? There were no rabbis then, Orthodox or progressive!!You were either Israelite or not AND if you wanted to you could join the tribe.
2. destruction/assimlilation from within the Jewish community is probably on the mark.
3. Standards? Whose? G-d, rabbi, Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructioist, Reform, Renewal?
4. Respect! Goes both ways baby!! Who appointed the Orthodox as torch carriers---they did themselves! Certainly wasn`t G-d. Respect for ALL people is a basic tenet of Judaism.
5. Rivka honey, rabbis are HUMAN BEINGS before anything else and are NOT privy to anything different than the rest of us. They do not hold the market on communication with/from G-d.
6. Used to be that G-d was in charge, long before there were such a thing as a movement or rabbis. Hmmm, wonder how G-d feels about that!!!
If someone said to Abraham and community "I`m an Orhtodox rabbi and in charge" he would have been ignored and/or ousted from the community.
