| before i get into your comment, i would state that it was not a one sided comment, it was THE OTHER SIDE, a response if you will, to the trash that i read on this forum (sorry for the strong language). Now, lets agree that the Soviet alyah of the 70s and 80s is different from the alyah of the 90s and up. However, that alyah wa rarely drive by zionistic or jewish motives, it was a desire to improve one`s current situation in an unpredictable socio-economic environment. And, sorry to say, I do not believe that Israel did a stellar job of integrating this particular alyah. Believe me, I live in Canada for 30 years and the "Russians" of the 70s and 80s have a different mentality of the "Russians" of the 90s+. Now, different does not mean better or worse. The thing is that if you want to attract "the best and the brightest", unfortunately, you have to compete with other countries and not cast a wide net such as a the right of return an think that only dedicated people will come. |
