The Nautilas laser system that Israel invested hundreds of millions along with the US is now the American Skygaurd after Israel pulled out of the project because there was not enough progress being made in laser technology.
Skygaurd is cheaper and can be bought off the shelf with US millitary aid but the problem is it s a chemical based lalser not solid state and it not only releases alot of harmfull chemicals and you can only get about 10 shots before the chemicals that run the thing run out.
What is needed is more investment in solid state laser technology with the goal of not only using it for short range rockets but also balistic missles .. in theory if a laser can shoot down a katusha increase the power and you can hit a missle.
The Israeli system is more practical if you want to fire many rockets in succesion without the need to replace bug vats of chemicals but long term better laser technology is the key, |
