| It is interesting to read that Chief Rabbi Amar allowed Shabbat work at Ben-Gurion Airport. Israel should introduce the separation of state & religious institution ASAP. This principle is not based upon an anticlerical separation on indifference and hatred of the synagogues and churches, nor of religion itself. Look, the Zionist movement did not create a Jewish nation, nor its religion and institutions. It found them already existing, and was framed for the purpose of protecting them under a republican form of government, in a rule of the Jewish people, by the Jewish people, and for the Jewish people. That might sound very American. Well indeed, it is about time that the Jewish state decides on its own constitution. A constitution which must say clearly what the state?s authority is and it must prevent the government imposition of religious beliefs on individuals. This is very important because otherwise religious fanatics, and the escalation of their political influence, will destroy the State of Israel, and end Herzl`s dream. |
