| Dutch Dirk has part of the picture correct. However, he has it skewed. The antisemitism in Europe in the 19th century was the reason for the birth of Zionism. Should Israel disappear and fail to exist as a refuge for Jews in the Diaspora, there will be a resurgence of antisemitism that will make current events seem mild. I was chased home from school on a regular basis by stone-hurling brats calling me names because I was a Jew (and this in New York City) Colleges and Universities had quotas Jews were not allowed to live in certain areas or lodge in certain hotels. I predict this returning should Israel disappear. Antisemitism exists and it is the reason for Israel`s existence; it does not result from the reality of Israel as a nation. |
