Leucippe, you are quite correct and the key qualifier is "This is not to say that all Poles should be condemned (except for these few)"

This is to be differentiated from the blanket statement made by Melbourne which is implying the all Polish compatriots of the honoured, ie the majority of Poles, vilified their heroism.

When dealing with known anti-polish racist Melbourne, this is not hair spliting especially when these posts are read by historically naive Americans (sorry if this does not apply to you, dear reader).

Yes of course there are were and are many polish racists. But these are outnumbered massively by those that are not - as in all countries. What we need to be aware of though is that the relationship between Poland and the Jews is far longer and more intense than with any other country bar possibly Germany, and there are long term issues in the collective memories that have not healed & its not all one way traffic. not knowing all the facts -its easy to be led astray
