| Absolutely right. We had a PA leadership which was seen by the world to be totally corrupt. Abbas was a leading player in that corrupt regime. Suddenly he is now the darling of the West. What happened? What did Fatah do which makes anyone think they have changed? Palestinians in general certainly remain to be convinced. The reaction was to elect Hamas with a protest vote. They were not ready or eqipped to govern, but they were elected. Instead of trying the change/support them, the world turned back to the corrupt leadership and tried to convice us that they are somehow OK now! They are not! Just like Tony Blair finally sat down with the IRA, Hamas will have to be drawn into the game eventually and be persuaded to drop their weapons in favour of politics. It can be done, but it needs a far better world leadership than we have now. |
