First of all, I am not an Israeli. Secondly, I grew up in East London, where I saw enough of the effects of drugs to put me right off for life. So that`s why I do see it as a free choice. Oddly enough, the people who I`ve met in my life who have the biggest problem with drugs aren`t from working class backgrounds at all. We tend to have more self respect. I was always shocked at university how people from so-called "good homes" were heavily into drugs.
I would also guess that the majority of drug users in Israel came from semi-professional middle-class homes back in the good old USSR.
Just for your information, Leiya, solving this problem means rooting out the suppliers and empowering communities, something that doesn`t seem to be very likely in Israel. |
