This law is an ill-thought out farce. I ride my bike daily and it made me sick when i heard it had passed. The muppets behind this law are not daily cyclists who know that wearing a helmet, as I was forced to do for a decade in NZ, is incredibly uncomfortable and has no real impact on safety figures relating to cycling as it is extremely difficult to actually wear them in a way that prevents head injuries - they found in NZ that kids almost never do. They also found in helmet studies that they actually contributed significantly to a rise in neck injuries in crashes. I will continue to ride without one!! |
