"fortunate that Israel was involved in all those wars..."? Israel didn`t ask for those wars. Didn`t ask the Arabs to reject partition in 1947. Didn`t ask Nasser to violate his 1956 agreement and shut the straits of Tiran in 1967. Didn`t ask Syria, Egypt, and Jordan to invade in 1973.
You wrote "Israel could have been stuck with just 50% of the land partitioned by the UN." Without quibbling over numbers, the ONLY reason it wasn`t is that the Arab leaders couldn`t accept even that, & rejected partition. Blame those leaders for wasting the opportunity.
Livni was wrong to stress terrorism. The real issue is that groups that reject human rights, and democracy, should not benefit from those processes they reject. Israel has Arab knesset members, and an Arab deputy (acting) knesset speaker. Israel absorbed 100,000 Ethiopian Jews, while Arabs are killing and raping other Muslims in Darfur just for being black. Let me know when there is an Arab country as open & diverse. |
