Bradley, you are correct that many major peace deals have been forged by right-wing leaders such as Begin and Shamir, or even Sharon with his disengagement plan. However, the claim that the right wing will make peace holds water like a sieve.
Any actions that right wing leaders took towards peace were not favored by the right wing sector of the Israeli public. They were, in essence, left wing actions taken by right wing leaders who were not representing those who elected them.
The Israeli right are harboring the illusion that military action and retaining territory will bring peace. Terming Lieberman?s absurd and preposterous proposals as being creative are the height of absurdity. His ideas are not original at all. They were employed by lots of fascist regimes throughout history.
Sorry, Bradley, you misread Lieberman, and you misread the right. The left are going to be the ones whose ideas are represented in a government that makes peace, no matter who leads it. |
