Sections of Ireland were pro nazi, notably the fine geal party, or the blue shirts as they were know`n. Develera, the Irish PM was not pro nazi, he was actually a personal freind of cheif Rabbi Herzog, and spent holidays with him in Israel. during the war years it must be rembered that Ireland had just come to the end of a bitter war with our english `cousins` followed by an equally bitter civil war. so the country was in no mood to join the english in their war as it was seen. however thousands of Irish people joined the fight against the nazis in the british forces. The country did behave shamefully limiting the number of Jewish people fleeing europe, while at the end of the war it sheltered many nazis. check out the docoumentry `Irelands nazis` by Cathal O Shannon. very informitive, though cringe making for an Irish person to watch. The progrom in Limerick, 1904 i think it was was another shameful episode. instigated by a jesuit fr john creagh.(more to follow)
