| That in itself is shocking. American and European museums have assembled many taskforces on the problems of undocumented art in museums. In 2004 the Association of Art Museum Directors set guidelines that required museums to investigate thoroughly the provenance of all art and artifacts considered for acquisition. The Hunt Museum hasn`t done that. The AIA in 2007 issued a moratorium on the acquisition of undocumented antiquities. Modern art, or anything Renaissance and up is much more easily documented. The Hunt Museum looks as if it was run as a rogue museum taking in art with any documented provenance. The Museum could be a drop for stolen art from any source. The whole museum should be investigated. |
