| Actually, pre-zionist israel was not a wasteland. It was a land of wetlands and wilderness. The Zionist ideology (that i grew up in) perpetuated the notion of a wasteland. Nowadays we all know better environmentally. In Israel there are numerous projects particlarly in the North to rehabilitate the areas that were drained, as people have come to realize the incredible environmental destructions that occurred, and the benefits to a healthy ecology once restored.
