Shmuel Rosner ,Haaretz Correspondent: Rabbi laments American Jews' preoccupation with liberalism
Talkback
Title:Aliyah Solution and The Smugness Of Rabbi Greer
Name:Yoram
City: State: usa
Greer seems to think America rather than Israel is the place to live a Jewish life, but maybe this is because he reads too much of the "liberal" Ha`aretz?
In seriousness, I would think any true religious Jew would have a problem with Greer in writing off a whole group of Jews simply because they are assimilated. How can any Jew feel smug and accomplished when other Jews cease to be Jews? What strange pride can there be in seeing intermarriage among other Jews?Maybe his grandchild will marry an Eskimo, does he know?
Rabbi Greer if he is a religious Jew and wishes to follow his religions requirements should be living in Israel. The religious who still live in America are also hypocrites on that, like the assimilated.
And rather than be amused at the loss of Jews from Judaism, maybe Greer should make it his business to promote aliyah among all American Jews, and have himself, his family, and congregation lead by exaple. You are not setting a good Jewish example Rabbi, in my opinion.
