| Dear Sara, Although what you saw in your visits to Israel is, sadly, not uncommon, Girgurim and other animal welfare groups in Israel endeavor daily to change things for the better, through education and legislation efforts. Girgurim created the cat shelter to offer needed sanctuary to discarded, displaced and distressed cats that otherwise would not survive the harsh realities you describe, but our aim is also to create a reality where this need will constantly decrease ? and animals living free or kept by owners will be granted a safe and dignified existence everywhere in the country. Only through enlightened activism can Israel become the place it should be for animals ? a place where they are treated with love, respect and compassion. Girgurim`s activities on these issues, that are regretfully not high on the national agenda, are greatly dependent upon availability of funds, so we are thankful for all support offered to sustain these efforts. We hope, with time, our goals will be met, and your visits to Israel will grant you a different, better picture. |
