being from Europe, I am also shocked by all the plastic bags lying by the sides of highways, in the city streets, beaches, nature reserves...
doesn`t matter how proud israelis are of their identity, but many people here do not seem to care about their country and their children - why else they litter every place they go.
money usually is the best teacher for educating the public - if in traffic, somebody must impose these rules, the plastic bag system can work by itself - just make it 1 shekel a bag for starters.
as from my experience, I usually manage to avoid the bags, but not in "haMashbir leTsarchan" for example. I asked not to give me the bad, but the saleslady said I have to take it otherwise the security thinks I stole the product. I said I have a receipt, but they said it doesn`t count, I must have the bag!!! |
