| In 1946, the Irgun, commanded by Menachem Begin, bombed the King David Hotel, which killed a number of Birtish subjects and struck at the British mandate in Palestine. The Irgun also kidnapped and hanged some British soldiers. At a later date, Begin was elected as Israels prime minister. Recently, a ceremony was held in Israel commerating the bombing of the King David Hotel. It was attended by Netanyahu and other influential Israelis. These are a few of the many ways in which Israel has stuck a finger in the eye of the British. If the Brits act a bit stand-offish, they have good reason. |
