Jews are not pacifists, nor do we believe in "turning the other cheek". So while it is true that any Jew who so much as lifts up his hand to strike another is deemed "wicked", at the same time we have a clear principle that "If someone is coming to kill you, rise up and kill HIM first", and Self Defense is one of the highest priorities in Judaism.
So while it is certainly tragic that anyone is being "hit first" in Israeli schools, it should really not be surprising that "hitting back" is the preferred reaction, because anyone who is normal and has even a shred of self respect will not allow themselves to be attacked and stand by idly. If only the Israeli government would be as "normal" as its school children and enact the same policy when it comes to "hitting back" enemies who attack us. I think we would find a dramatic improvement in the overall situation and a REDUCTION in overall violence.
Unfortunately, there isn`t a shred of authentic Jewish values left in our leaders... |
