| Centuries of suspicion have created a negative sentiment and recent history has also left a sense of shame and guilt.The average Austrian,whoever he may actually be is suspicious and negative toward Jews.The Austrian Chancellor heads a country which has refused to hand back property owned by Jews and continues to this day to refuse justified claims for the return of looted property.The Austrian government has also promised to repair the huge Jewish cemetry in central Vienna but has done nothing.His promise of a new era should be followed up by action on relations with Israel and with Austrias Jews.Quite how the Chancellor intends to change the habits of centuries he didn,t say.Austria still avoids its responsibilities vis a vis Jews and Israel.Immigrants also die in police custody far too often !!Strange !! |
