| Yes, we owe to Reform Judaism a lot. Men and women sitting together in synagogue, music, the conservative and reconstructionst movements, thorough academics and an involvement in politics. Yet it was born in German enlightened hubris. Arrogance is never far from its core, so is Americo-centrism and holier-than-thou political correctness and miopia for what is durable in Judaism. I wish the Reform movement a Mikveh in humbleness and sensitivity, in tradition and a Jewish heart for it, a reform of from its own arrogance and sense of knowing things better than anybody else. As for Rabbi Yoffie, it is hard for me to discern whether this is genuine or posturing. |
