As an Ashkenazi Jew (not blond and quite dark) who lived most his live with Mizrahim, I can safely attest that the idea that Israel is controlled by the blond Ashkenazim is nonsense. A child born of Yeminite or Moroccan roots in Israel has the same chances as me. Just as you point out that Jews in Iran are not an abused minority based on their ancestry, perhaps what you have been told about Israelis is an exaggeration as well.
Where the racism does lie is with ANYONE new in Israel as any immigrant population and that includes immigrants from Ethiopia, Russia, France and the US. Not based on skin color but based on differences- which of course is wrong. And I agree that Arab Israelis have institutional and social racism do deal with in Israel and that must end. Painting the picture of Israel as blond ?colonists? from northern Europe against the poor dark people of the world is complete nonsense and shows you are not from here. |
