| When the Armenians rebelled and tried to declare their independence from the Ottoman Empire during World War I, then the crackdown was violent, as it always is in all empires, but the Armenians were allowed to run away if they could, it was not exactly the same as the intention to hunt down every Jew in the world even outside Germany that the Nazis planned. In that sense there was a major difference in the contexts. Incidentally, when the Serbs were intending to do the same in Sarajevo, most Europeans did not care because the victims were Muslims, not Christians like the Armenians, but Israel did accept a couple hundreds of Muslim Sarajevo residents as refugees during the crisis. However, a few years later the Israeli flag was burned in Bosnia, but we are used to getting stabbed in the back all the time, what can we do? |
