The left comes traditionally from the kibbutz movement, labor and the university educated population. They are not rich. If anyone is rich, it`s the right wing CEOs and bank managers (the previous General Zionists) and donors from abroad, like Bronfman, Reichman and many others. Many of them finance directly yeshivas and settlements.
The first Zionists built the land. There were all socialists (left wingers). Very few right wingers and religious people built settlements in Israel. The socialist leaders of the nation, e.g. Ben Gurion, Sapir, Golda, were the ones who turned Israel from an idea to reality. To accuse them or theirfollowers of not caring about Israel is a gross insult.
The majority of Israeli population, and not only the left wing, wants Israel to be a Jewish state, but living in peace with its Arab neighbors inside and outside of the Land. We want a democratic and not a theocratic state, a legitimate part of the family of nations |
