"And our national interest is not to have a Palestinian state."
Maybe for the short term, but looking ahead a few years when the surrounding states have high-tech weaponry AND nuclear capability it`s a much different picture. Unless a settlement has been made, major war is guaranteed, and Israel may win the body count but will probably cease to exist.
Israel could simply pull back to the Green Line unilaterally, solve the refugee problem with money, be recognized by 22 Arab regimes and live happily ever after. No `peace partner` or even negotiations with the Pals are needed. Just do it. If security is a concern, negotiate NATO, US, or IDF presence in the WB, even missile defense installations there could be arranged, just get the settlers out. Israel could even join NATO and be guaranteed security for ever.
All that`s needed is a firm hand with the settlers and getting over the greed for more and more land |
