All the evidence suggests that these men fell attacking `Pillbox Hill`. They were killed in combat so their opponents were almost certainly armed men. I am not aware of any atrocities against the civilians of Tel Arish by Bn. 52 of the Givati Brigade. If you have evidence to the contrary please present it here. It is a mark of decency that the remains and memories of ordinary soldiers who fought honourably and died in combat are treated with respect. Regardless of the side they fought for. If they were from units that routinely commited atrocities then that is a different issue and different rules apply. To make an blind assumption that these men murdered civilians prior to the fighting is to libel the dead and insult their families. I am sure that Arab civilians were murdered during various wars but this was the exception not the rule. Disciplined Jewish soldiers for the most part were concerned with military objectives and the killing of civilians was anathema to them. |
