Adelson must be admired for his generosity and his determination to help. However I wonder if the Taglit program is not a case of `preaching to the converted` in that those who sign up are probably already pro Israel. This money could be better spent creating media foundations and programs to counter Palestinian propaganda and the mischief of anti Israel activists in Europe and North America. There is a much wider (non Jewish) audience that might yet be receptive and supportive towards Israel. We must win these hearts and minds. Money could also be used to provide much needed resources in some of Israel`s `forgotten towns` where there is real poverty and deprivation and an urgent need for social action. Money spent intelligently could make a real difference. |
