Podul Iloaiei has a tragic connotation for the Iasi jewish Holocaust survivors. It is there that the victims of the June 1941 pogrom known as the death trains were buried. The pogrom was carried out by Romanian troupes with the knowledge of marechal antonescu who eventually put a stop to it after ten of thousand innocent victims were murdered. Same Romanian troupes carried out atrocities against the Jewish population in Transnistria and the territories they occupied from former Soviet Union In the strong antisemitic context that was predominant in WWII Romania the act of this officer Criveanu is most worthy of praise and respect. |
