First of all, I`d like to thank you for giving a bit of depth to this issue that I didn`t understand before. You contributed something to Talkback genuinely worth reading!
But would you mind if I typed out some of my own responses and questions to your questions?
1) Undemocratic people who win a democratic majority can destroy democracy. Other than sheer demographic force ("the RELIGIOUS & NATIONALIST WOMB"), the Haredim really have no right to control so much of Israeli policy. They don`t send their children to the same schools, don`t hold jobs in the economy, and don`t serve in the Army or even do alternative national service. IMHO, you really should condition the right to vote on performing some form of military or civilian service.
2), I suppose Dr. Ben-David is afraid that children sent to Haredi schools will become Haredi. If the Haredi really became a majority, it would destroy the State of Israel since nobody would do any of the necessary *work*. Continues over ... |
