| Professor Ben-David, Thank you for your article which certainly calls attention to a number of important issues, and to my thinking, many questions: 1. If the Knesset is a democratically elected body, then why are you bothered by its vote to allow the exemption of the core curriculum to orthodox students? 2. How is this exercise in democracy an undoing of democracy? It appears to me only an expression of the great freedom Israeli citizens have to be allowed to teach their children as they see fit. 3. Why do you think so many parents choose to send their children in increasing numbers to schools that are not part of the national or national-religious schools? Does it seem to indicate their disfavor with those schools? Don`t you think the State schools might take notice and adjust their offerings to better serve the public? 4. What would you call a country that forces its students to attend state sponsored schools? Be well, Yaacov Deyo |
