For the last few weeks Haaretz has been so preoccupied with haredim. The media and cultural world cannot get enough of them. A recent serial on TV about a "Romeo & Juliet" haredi\secular love story had a huge following. So they produce many children-the family nucleus is paramount. Seculars are opting out of marriage-and want fewer children. The value systems are worlds apart. The secular education is in bad shape. Many parents who are not haredi are moving their children to the haredi schools that now offer many secular subjects. The classes are smaller in number and the respect the teachers receive is proportional to the devotion in the way they educate. The violence in the national school system, with teachers being threatened, etc.would make any parent look for an alternative. Let the govt.tackle draft and other issues- but give the hareidim a break. |
