| The 9th of Av is indeed our Nakba day, twice over. But sometimes pride and our attachment to our pain can override our humility. Har Habayit indeed means the Mountain of the Home, but it is not the home of the Jews or Arabs, but of the God we both worship. According to Jewish tradition, He chose this place for His presence among us, and according to Islam, He chose to bring the Prophet to visit Him through this farthest place. The nationalist claims, born of pride and wounds, obscure this. But once we remember that no one owns God, the pragmatists among us will have a much easier time working out a compromise which everyone can swallow. |
