By all means teach both Jewish and non-Jewish children about the Naqba. But teach them also about the other Naqba when more than half a million Jews were driven out of countries where they had been living for a thousand years before the Arabs invaded them and made them second-class citizens for another thousand years.
Well before Theodore Herzl and Zionism, Jews had ceased to exist in Medina and other places in Saudi Arabia. At the time of the prophet most of the oases in Norther Arabia were settled by Jews. Where are they now? When Amr Ibn Ass conquered Alexandria he desriibed the city as being settled half by Greeks and half by Jews. There may be a few Greeks left in the city which they founded but there are less than a dozen Jews. And so it could mgo on.
When all Arabs - not just those in Israeli schools are taught their own history of oppression perhaps they will be a little less intolerant - or perhaps not! |
