There was an initiative some time ago, I can`t find the article now, for there to be a Joint Israeli-Palestinian Curriculum. It was entirely unofficial, and probably opposed by both governments, but I think that a joint curriculum holds a number of benefits.
If Israeli kids can understand the pain the struggle felt by Arab kids, and Arab kids can understand the pain and struggle of Israeli kids, then I think we are making progress.
A Joint Curriculum could be a great thing by giving both sides a realitively neutral and comprehensive explanation of history: Independent/Naqba,The `67 war seen from both side`s perspective, Oslo and the Intifadas seen from both perspectives.
Except that I think this should be taugh not only to Jewish or Arab kids in Israeli, both to both groups, as well as to Palestinian kids under the PA Education system
Both sides propagandize their childs education, and this undermines a child`s ability to understand "the other side".Peace is helped by good education |
