| Miriam, the problem is that there is no doubt that the 11% of Haredi non-servers will increase expontentially from year to year, and they hardly do any national service. Among the other 15% of non-servers, some do national service instead, some have genuine health limitations, and as for the so-called shirkers there is at least hope that motivation may bring some of them to serve after all. The organized shirking of the Haredim is an "untouchable" problem. It is sad to see the shopping and banking areas of some religious neighborhoods at 11am in the morning, teeming with yeshiva bochers. |
