41 members of Hamas in Israeli jails. Any of them actually been charged?
Of course being elected doesn`t give you the right to commit crimes, but until the Hamas members are charged and convicted - and, alas, not in an Israeli court - the world will see this, probably rightly, as penalising those guilty of being Hamas supporters. So Israel is imposing a mockery of democracy on its neighbours.
We can of course expect loud protests from the country committed to the spread of democracy in the Arab world. |
