The subject of Israel is a red flag in the US as well. In fact a friend of mine just commented that the number of blogs he reads daily is shrinking, not because of the site owners, but because of the viciousness of the antiIsrael rhetoric that pops up with increasingly naked ugliness. Some of this is probably coming from overseas, but a lot of it is domestic. It`s coming from both the far right and the far left. My nieces, college age, report that anti-Jewish rhetoric is constant and commonplace. The blogs reflect the fact that it`s now fashionable to openly disrespect Jews. The old canards about Jewish conspiracies, dual loyalty, money and supposed political and media control have resurfaced on the internet with a vengeance.
I am torn about the idea that letting this stuff hang out is "disinfecting" evil by letting people see it. I think the sheer repetitive hammering of endless antisemitic lies is going to result in real violence. |
