"Everybody knows that when you increase the minimum wage, then you increase unemployment."

Everybody knows that when someone starts a statement with "Everybody knows...", it is simply not true!

Seriously, you are wrong about this. States which have introduced a minimum wage, e.g. the UK, have found no significant decline in emplyment. Employers need the same amount of labour as before and can usually absorb the extra cost, especially if the minimum wage is low anyway. Their profits may be slightly lower but they are unlikely to be put out of business.
