We are now seeing a wave of articles which purport to explain why trying Katsav would be damaging to Israel. Wake up, and look at the foreign press - the real damage is in the possibility that Israel will NOT try him. That is harming Israel`s image as a law-abiding, and law-enforcing country far, far more than seeing this through to the inevitable end - namely one or more convictions and a jail sentence.
At the moment we are radiating a message to the world that not only to we have a despicable man for an ex-president but we are prepared to somehow let him off the hook.
That is an insult to all who care for Israel`s image as a democracy respectful of the rule of law.
To safeguard Israel`s image, due process must continue, with no concessions. The damage to Israel`s standing is due solely to Katsav and his actions over the years and not to those who would try him. |
