Arafat was not a terrorist, he was a freedom fighter. He was no more of a terorist than Israeli leaders from Ben Gurion to Ariel Sharon.
Arafat sought genuine peace with Israel. he recongized Israel within the 1967 borders. He scraped the Palestinian National Charter. And he vilently repressed the opponents of peace with Israel.
However, Israel insisted that he act like a quisling...and kept up the settlemetn expansion in the West Bank. And that he couldn`t accept.
Arafat made many mistakes and committed many blunders. But He was a true Palestinian nationalist. Without Arafat, the Palestinian cause probably would have gone into oblivion.
