In truth, ME peace is not possible today. Peace between Israel and the Palestinians was something honest people thought they could accomplish 15 years ago. Today, honest people know it is not possible. The most Israel and the US can strive for is relative tranquility - not absolute tranquility, but a reduction in the killing originating from palestine and a reduction in the threat that palestine poses to Israel.
Unfortunately, there is no power in the area other than Israel that has the will and the capability to undertake the difficult measures that will achieve this. Moshe Arens needs to be heeded: because of the carnage in Palestine; because Hamas and Hezbulla are Iran`s proxies; because they are competing for hegemeny with AlQueda cells; and because the status quo will destroy Israel. |
