Jonathan Lis and Yair Ettinger, Haaretz Correspondents and The Associated Press: Some 3,500 march in gay pride parade in Jerusalem
Talkback
Title:Even though the gays have every right to march
Name:Yonatan
City: Kefar-SavaState: Israel
they are nevertheless exhibiting poor judgment and lack of discretion in conducting an "in your face" demonstration in Jerusalem.
Jerusalem, unlike Sussex, is considered holy to three religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. It is a city full of holy sites, where clerics of all denominations and religions reside, and has a large fundamentalist population of all three religions.
Tel-Aviv and Haifa, by contrast are secular cities. holy to no one, amd there the gays have demonstratred and can continue to demonstrate without causing any disturbance.
The gay march in Jerusalem can only be considered a provocation.
I have never heard of any straights demonstrating their heterosexuality; I have never heard of a march of husbands, wives and baby carriages.
The homosexuals need to demonstrate thus derives from their abnormality (as opposed to the norm, which is homosexuality). They feel a need to "prove" that they are a normal part of society - which they are not.
